Gwanwyn Workshops

This was an amazing project that The Successors of the Mandingue were delighted to be involved in working with Age Cymru and Age Gwent to provide djembe and balafon workshops to the over 50s firstly in The Riverfront Theatre in Newport during 2019 culminating in a VIP showcase evening.

We are pleased to have been awarded further funding by Age Cymru to provide both djembe and singing workshops in Cardiff for the Gwanwyn* Festival in May 2021!

Djembe workshop

Our benefits of our work with elders’ groups through Age Cymru have included reducing social isolation, learning new tricks, boosting self-esteem, improving communication, providing ‘brain training’ exercise, as well as being jolly good fun.

Singing workshop* Gwanwyn is a month-long national festival held across Wales in May each year celebrating creativity in older age. Gwanwyn means spring in Welsh, and celebrates older age as a time of opportunity for renewal, growth and creativity. Age Cymru’s aim is to offer opportunities for greater participation by older people in the arts, whether visual arts, drama, storytelling, music, literature, photography, dance or film.
