We are honoured to have the incredible Suntou Susso Band feat. Binta Susso joining us again this year in Cardiff on Sunday 25th August as Dathliad Cymru-Affrica joins Butetown Carnival.
Hailing from the Gambia, Suntou’s music combines the rich, traditional sound of his West-African Mandinka culture with Afro funk and soul. He is a kora player (22 string harp-lute), percussionist, singer and composer. Suntou’s family includes some of the most well-respected West African musicians, for this performance he will be joined by one of them, special guest singer Binta Susso who’s vocals feature on his 2022 album Kanéfonyo.
Binta Susso is a singer songwriter and daughter of renowned singer and kora player Momodou Susso, she grew up surrounded by the beautiful melodies and intricate rhythms of the Manding Griot culture. Binta toured Europe and the UK as a member of Jalikunda Cissokho, a family band that included Solo Cissokho and Seckou Keita. She was part of the Seckou Keita Quintet where they performed over 600 concerts in 40 countries. She currently runs workshops in schools and community settings and performs with both Sura and Suntou Susso.
