Liz Ikamba will be joining us on Sunday June 11th in Cardiff for a performance and an interactive voice and body percussion workshop.

PERFORMANCE: British-Congolese (DRC) singer and multi-instrumentalist Liz Ikamba cross pollinates musical and cultural influences, seamlessly blending the
rich and vibrant sounds of Congo folk music with elements of Jazz and
Soul. Collaborating with the dynamic London Afro Jazz outfit
Matondology, Liz’s debut EP is a showcase of her unique talent and
creative vision, with songs speaking largely from her experience as a
mixed heritage woman and artist living in the UK. Singing in both English
and Lingala, she weaves together a personal and ancestral story. Mama’s
five tracks take us on a voyage back and forth between DR Congo and the UK.  Liz’s bold and timeless sound weaves in her unique style of Afro-Soul-Folk music with elements of Folk, Music of Black Origin, Dub-Reggae, Hip Hop, and more.

WORKSHOP: Liz is an experienced vocal and community music leader, with over 12 years experience working with people of varied backgrounds and abilities, using music and the arts for social connection, well being and education.  The workshop will include: Fun, interactive games and tools for collaborative in-the-moment music-making, using the voice and body percussion.  Learning songs from around the world in different languages, including Lingala (DR Congo), Xhosa (South Africa) and French.  All activities are designed to build confidence, encourage connection, co-creation and empowerment.
